The Crash

I haven’t ever been able to sleep on an airplane. I’ve made some long hauls “over the pond” before and for all of those journeys, I was conscious every bitter second.

Today was par for the course.

I hardly slept last night so I was aware that that today’s flights to Vancouver and then onto Honolulu were going to be exhausting. The amount of “hurry up and wait” that goes along with air travel is astounding which translates into stress as well as both mental and physical exhaustion. If I could get a wink of sleep on the plane, this might be acceptable.

But right now, in the hotel room in Honolulu, I’m having trouble keeping my eyes open. More tomorrow.

I Got A Tent… And Not In My Pants, Either!

There comes a time in every man’s summer where he just needs to get the fuck out of town, go somewhere remote and live like a complete savage for a few days. Eating food cooked over an open fire that he built with his own hands (newspaper and lighter fluid optional), hiking to beautiful natural sights, getting some dirt under his fingernails and maybe, if he’s lucky, taking a shit in the woods.

Yes, I’m talking about camping.

And let me tell you, I’m way past due for a vacation. I’ve been slugging it out at work for about two years with very little extended vacation time taken. Getting iMessages from my friend and former colleague who left the company at the end of June and took all of July off (half of it in his hometown of Kelowna, British Columbia) isn’t helping soothe my itch to commune with nature. I mean, good for him but… hey, what about good for me?

I have a couple of days booked around a weekend in August in which to vacation with a campsite booked in the Western Alberta interior on the peninsula jutting into a lake. It’s actually more of a large reservoir created by the construction of a dam way back in the day but only time will tell if this was a huge mistake or not. Review will be pending.

Last year, we hit up Fish Lake campground on Shunda Lake near Nordegg in September and, if it wouldn’t have been so fucking cold at night… the whole trip would have been glorious. Plus, the dog loved it. We’ll see how this new spot compares.

I, Alone

The King is ‘holding the fort’ on his own this week. The rest of the royal family went on a bit of a road trip to the Canadian west coast to visit the Duchess in Vancouver; making this the first re-union since she migrated west from the NJLE.

I’d liked to have been able to go.  However, in the past six months, all of those little things that go along with being King necessitated me taking an hour off here, a half a day there and before you know it… I’ve burned through all of my vacation time that I’d earned manning the helm of industry.  What can I say?  I’ve nickel and dimed myself out of a summer vacation.

Corona & Lime

Down the hatch...

So what am I to do for the next week?  Judging from the picture to the left, I’m going to have a bevy or two.  I’m going to relax.  I’m going to lounge around in the royal chambers absolutely buck naked.  I’m going to save my farts in a jar.  You know, the kind of the things that all of the royals do when they are unsupervised.

To be truthful, I’ve got a few things that I’d like to get done around the kingdom over the next couple of days.  Exactly what those things are, well… I’m not going to give it up here.  In reality, there’s a lot depending on what the weather is going to be like; weather that has been nothing but infinitely sucktastic since the royal fam left yesterday morning.

I guess there is a lot that can go on in the next week in the New JeffLand Empire… I’ll have to post some updates to make sure that everyone is on the same page.

Status Quo

And it's time to frolic!

And it's time to frolic!

Not exactly a State Of The Union address… but much hasn’t changed in JeffLand.  We’re sort of in between sports at the moment and some time has been freed up for some relaxation and frolicking in the new-found sun!  Spring is almost here and I’m loving it.  The snow is melting and the brownish-greys of winter are slowly washing away with the greens of spring slowly making their way to the surface.  Slowly… a little too slowly if you ask me.  I’ll take it however it comes, though, since spring is infinitely better than winter.  And if I could ever get past the daylight savings time change… I’d be set.

The workplace has been crushing my soul every day and after a long, cold winter… I’m getting a little squirrelly and needing to get the #$%& out of there.  It’s not like I have anywhere I want to be or need to be, I just can’t stand being at my desk in that cubicle.  Perhaps a visit to the JeffLand embassy some place tropical is in order.  I’ll see what I can do about the national debt and setting it back a little.

Back To Work

Here, in the waning hours of vacation, I lie in dread… for tomorrow is a return to work. My carefree days, playing video games in my pajamas and not knowing what day of the week it was… they’ve come to an end.

I lie in my bed writing this and I know I can’t hold out forever. Sleep is coming and with it a new day. It’s just going to really suck.
