Alas, I Am Alone

For some reason, it feels more intimate to write a post on my phone than it does on my laptop. When I sit down at my laptop to write now, I feel like I need to write some kind of an epic post. Something either smart or funny or insightful… but not something sort of informal and off-the-cuff.

Stupid, I know.

I have a bizarre relationship with the written word write now when combined with public access and my own honesty. I got burned, so… once bitten, twice shy. And the bite changed me forever and stole something that I used to love so much. The ability to openly write without fear of repercussion.

iPhone Haterz

The iPhone 3GS

Sure, I’ve professed my love for the iPhone to so many people. I’ve bragged about it and it’s superiority to other smartphones. And there are many other geeks out there that would agree with me.

However, right now… in this very moment, I absolutely HATE my iPhone. HATE.

I’m not even two years into my iPhone 3GS ownership and, already, I have battery issues. Also, I think that I’ve got an issue with my dock connection which cuts the life to an unusable low level. Basically, on a good day, I can get maybe 20 minutes of use out of my phone when it is not plugged in and that’s after I turned off the 3G and dimmed the screen.

I’d read articles that would chide the iPhone for not having a removable battery. I read those articles and thought that they were really backwards thinkers for wanting to have battery access. Having the battery sealed inside the phone housing was an innovation, right?

It’s only an innovation if you have a fresh battery. Otherwise, it’s a massive pain in the fucking ass that turns out to be wicked expensive to fix. It’s so bad that I almost want to consider buying an Android phone but I’ve already invested so much money in apps for iOS devices that it’s a little late to change now.

The New JeffLand Empire: Mobile Edition

I think it’s pretty obvious to anyone involved in website administration or those who make a living from the Internet that mobile browsing is changing the way we get our information as well as the format it takes. The standard format for websites often gets lost in translation when viewed on a mobile device and becomes borderline painful to browse.

The way of the future is multiple layouts based upon the user’s browser type. This usually means a lean, trimmed down version of the website with few options and resorts to displaying the guts of the website.

Following the lead of sites like Lifehacker, Gizmodo or Engadget, the New JeffLand Empire website is sporting its own mobile edition. Same great taste with less calories!

Between devices, the mobile site may appear slightly different however the content is the same. If you want to see the full site, either get to a computer and browse it or just click the link at the bottom of this page on your mobile device to exit the mobile edition.

I’ve charged the JeffLand Minister of the Interwebs with jazzing up both sites a little and adding some awesomeness to them. So keep an eye out for some changes!
